castiel’s resistance to killing dean.

Cas and Dean's character arcs have been parallels since Season 5. I mean think about it:

Dean Season 1: Looking for his dad, but ultimately loses faith in him for failing to protect his family.
Castiel Season 5: Looking for his dad, but ultimately loses faith in him for failing to protect his family.
Dean end of Season 2: Makes a stupid decision (with the ultimate intention of protecting his family) that’s going to cost him his life.
Castiel end of Season 6: Makes a stupid decision (with the ultimate intention of protecting his family) that’s going to cost him his life.
Dean Season 3: Deals with the consequences of his actions and ultimately goes to Hell at the end of the season.
Castiel Season 7: Deals with the consequences of his actions and ultimately goes to Purgatory at the end of the season.
Dean Season 4: Has done some terrible things and no longer thinks he deserves to be saved; is brought out of Hell by angels, who want him for their own purposes.
Castiel Season 8: Has done some terrible things and no longer thinks he deserves to be saved; is brought out of Purgatory by angels, who want him for their own purposes.

Because he and Cas wanted a way to communicate that was private. So Cas taught him.

And then when they meet up again, Cas just automatically starts speaking in it because it’s become so natural between them. And Dean answers back the same without thinking.

While Sam watches on really impressed.

And it’s only a week or so later, after a ton of research into Enochian pronunciation, that Sam realises what he took for a greeting was Cas saying ‘I love you’ and that what Dean said back wasn’t ‘hello’ but ‘you too.’
